In 2012, international organization for standardization developed a new standard ‐ ISO 39001:2012, whose requirements provide implementation of Road Traffic Safety Management System in organizations. This International Standard provides a tool to help organizations to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, the incidence and risk of death and serious injury related to road traffic crashes. This focus can result in a more cost‐effective use of the road traffic system. Standard ISO 39001:2012 is applicable on all types of organizations especially on organizations that in greater extent interact with the road traffic system, such as transportation companies and companies for road design, construction and maintenance. 

 

A ONE STEP FORWARD TO REDUCING ROAD CRASHES AND NUMBER OF DEATHS AND INJURIES   IS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERNATIONAL STANDARD   ISO 39001:2012!



PUBLIC ENTERPRISE ROADS OF SERBIA (PERS), the main enterprise for development and management of  I and II category state roads in the Republic of Serbia launched the project: SERBIAN ROADS – CAPACITY BUILDING ON ROAD SAFETY MANAGEMENT (ISO 39001).   IN THE YEAR 2019, PUBLIC ENTERPRISE ROADS OF SERBIA  WILL BE THE FIRST COMPANY OF THIS TYPE IN EUROPE   WITH IMPLEMENTED ISO 39001

Realization of this project is being conducted in cooperation with international and local experts, from one of the leading Italian engineering consultancy companies – IRD engineering, as well as from one of the leading Serbian engineering consultancy companies – IIPP Institute for research and design in commerce and industry. The overall objective of this project is to assist PERS in the preparation and certification of a road safety management system in

accordance with the ISO 39001 requirements, assisting the company during the certification process and development of local expertise in order to assist other Serbian organizations in the future, especially road companies, construction companies etc. 

PURPOSE OF THIS PANEL IS TO GATHER ALL REPRESENTATIVES OF DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND ROAD COMPANIES WITH THE AIM TO INTRODUCE PLANNED INNOVATIONS WITHIN ROAD TRAFFIC FIELD AND TRAFFIC INFRASTRUCTURE

Project includes four main tasks: review of existing situation (current road safety principles and practice, key issues and

institutional problems and etc.), action plan for ISO 39001 certification (providing the sequence of actions needed to be

implemented by PERS in order to become ISO 39001 certified and etc.), preparation of Road Safety Management System (by

providing the methodological help and new programmes which include the definition of relevant key safety indicators and their

successful management) and transfer of skills by trainings.  

THIS AMBITIOUS BUSINESS POLICY WILL BUILD CAPACITY OF ALL PARTNERS WITHIN ROAD DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS, MAINTENANCE OF ROADS WHO WILL NEED TO BE MORE DEDICATED TO ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY IN ALL ASPECTS



By proved model of other world countries where ISO 39001 is intensively used, it is expected that successful realization of this project will bring benefits such as:  

- PERS ISO 39001 certification;  

- Contribution to the development of local expertise in the field of Road Traffic Safety management;  

- Reduction of road traffic accidents where PERS participates as well as an increment of PERS positive influence on overall road traffic safety in the Republic of Serbia;  

- Improved corporate social responsibility credentials;  

- Reduction of risk of traffic accident occurrence on roads of Serbia;  

- Reduction of risk of being sued for negligence;  

- Raised awareness among road traffic safety stakeholders on the key principles and benefits of the new programme;  

- Reduction of PERS costs as well as overall national costs caused by road traffic accidents and many other…



PUBLIC ENTERPRISE ROADS OF SERBIA will, with realization of this project, adopt proven European practice and take the

initiative to provide a further development of application of ISO 39001 standard in the Republic of Serbia.

VISION OF THIS PROJECT IS TO INVOLVE AS MANY  ROAD DESIGN / CONSTRUCTION / MAINTENANCE / TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES AS POSSIBLE, IN IMPLEMENTATION OF ISO 39001 AND TO USE THIS TOOL FOR IMPROVEMENT OF OVERALL STATE ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY
